I TRY for 20ks a day 10 uphill and 10 down,weekends we push to 40ks
but remember this is all off road, jeeptrack mountain path and single track. -
I am about two months into ridding. I have a MTB with road tires and ride 95% on the road. I try and ride either a nine mile or 12 mile course near home 2-3 times a week. I try and get out for a longer ride on the weekends. Longest ride to date is 21 miles.

I live 18 miles from work, and typically, I rarely drive to work anymore. I ride. I have a pickup, but I never drive it unless I have to haul something. If it looks sorta rainy and it is relatively warm out, I just ride, and then change into the clothes I keep at my locker. In the cooler months, as long as it is not a blowing snow or blizzard condition, I ride. The truck doesn't get used much for general transport anymore.
Aside from a humongus hill about a mile long on the way to work, I generally have no trouble. (That hill makes the legs really hit the burn, and I can feel them just a tad "tight" and sore on the ride in on mondays) even geared just perfect, it is still working me a bit, but I'm not a "serious" cyclist. Coming down that hill though, well it is phun! 😉 Peddle like wild fire for the first quarter of the grade, and I can coast allllll the way to my driveway (4 miles on a down hill grade.)
On the weekends, I typically will take a few bucks into town (to waste at the pool hall most possibly), which is about 5 miles past where I work. On sunday, I take the exact same bike, and hit some backwoods trails, rain or shine.
Gotta love the life of a rider. Everybody around me is barking and growling about gas prices, I just hope the cost of my fuel (Roast Beef) doesn't increase!!!!
