I worked in a shop in 1971, when the bike boom took hold. We sold 19, 21, and 23 inch frames, and
later 25. I always thought people were buying the biggest bike they could manage because they felt
they were getting more for their money. I got my own first racing bike in 1964, a 60 cm c-t ( I am
6'1"). I always thought it didn't look good because it had "too much" seat post sticking out. In the
70s I went to 61 for this reason, but had to use a short stem. Now I'm back to 60, fits just right,
but looks geeky by today's standards because there's "too little" seatpost showing. I still have my
Nehru jacket and leisure suit in the closet, I'm sure they'll come back into style sooner or later.
