  1. A group of nonprofit health groups have formed a new advisory group to
provide info about diet and health. Here is a news report:

    medscape.com481578

    Their web site is:

    essentialnutrition.orgessentialnutrition.org

They provide a survey of the science in a "background" link
with references and other info related to low carb diets. A
balance of info by looking at all aspects of a question
makes of us all more informed consumers and managers of our
health. This page balances the widely reported info common
in the popular press andd on newsgroups, as in most things
in life the middle ground is often the best place to be.

Once again, they are clueless about what low-carb diet is.

"Carbohydrates prevent disease in other ways besides being
the sole source of fiber. Packaged along with fiber in
fruits and vegetables -- which are primarily carbohydrates
-- they are rich in antioxidants and contain a number of
phytochemicals that have been linked to a lower risk of
certain cancers, stroke, heart disease and high blood
    pressure."

They are still unable to understand that low-carb is not no-
carb and that in fact it means replacing concentrated carbs
    with veggies and (possibly) fruits.

Only difference is whole-grains - and it is interesting that
while they are speaking about it, they are unable to give
any advanatage of eating whole-grains instead of veggies
(or, if you wish, protein or fat).

I wish that somebody would criticise low-carb based on what
    low-carb really is....

"Less than one in five know that broccoli is rich in
    carbohydrate (17 percent)"

Well, I think this kind of information helps us know how
deep is knowledge of this "group"...

(With 2g / 100g of non-fiber carbs it can be hardly
described as "rich in carbohydrate". There is even more
protein than digestible carbs in brocolli, so if you
wish you can rather describe it as "rich in protein and
    low in carbs".)

That is the problem when you are criticising something based
on your financial interest and not based on any science. The
arguments they put forward are silly and make no scientific
sense. The more they protest the sillier they look. I say
let them keep at it. Their scientific ignorance is obvious
as soon as they open their mouths.
