Motobecane Vent Noir

So I got my new bike tonight and put it together and I absolutely love it!!!!!!!! The paint is beautiful, the welds are very smooth, the Vuelta wheels not only look awesome they also roll very smooth. I really like the Tiagra integrated brakes/shifters opposed to my old twist grip shifters, and the carbon fork looks great, the Tiagra front derailer needed minor adjustment and all I had to do to the 105 rear derailer was make a small twist on the cable adjuster and they shifted very smooth. I have never riden a bike that shifts this smooth. When I had my cheap walmart bike next to the Motobecane; the walmart bike looked like junk and I cant believe I ever rode it(hope no one saw me on it). LOL!! Also, should I lube the bike good before I go on my first ride or should it have sufficent lube now since it is new? I have never had a nice bike so I am not really sure how to care for it properly. What lube is the best? I guess I will go to my LBS tomorrow and get a few supplies. Anyway, I really haven't had a chance to ride the Motobecane hard yet because I am waiting on my new cycling shoes to get here. I can't wait! Well I don't have to work anymore this year so I will be messing around tomorrow so I will take some pictures and post them in this thread for anyone who may want to see. I really think I made a great choice and I think I really got alot of bike for the money spent.
Thanks, Brent

I just took a peak in the Road Cycling section at BikeForums.net because they have a holiday special going on, but it is all for more expensive bikes. However, a $1400 Titanium bike does sound interesting if it weren't for your budget constraint.

Over at bikeforums.net there are constant arguments about the bikes and the company. It does seem that the people who haven't bought them complain about substandard bikes... But nobody who has bought one has that opinion.

I think several posters there are correct in their analysis that the problem with them is that they are no good because it is a bike that functions just as well as the expensive bikes that the people complaining have bought (jealousy).

I personally thought of buying their touring bike for a while...

ok, so here are the pics! Hell its pretty nice for 700.00! If anyone wants any other info just ask! ENJOY!

Sweet. You will enjoy it. Smart shopper.

Now that most of the parts and frames come from a handful of Taiwanese jobbers, it's pretty hard to buy a crappy bike. Because of these manufacturers and the internet, the bike industry is about to be hit by the same transformation that hit the musical instrument biz during the last ten years.

Beautiful bike:p! Everything should already be lubed. The only thing that I would do right now is lube the chain. There are a lot of good chain lubes available. I use Prolink Gold, but it is only a matter of personal preference.

Nice Pics having a bike like that would drive me nuts right now because there is 2 feet of snow on the ground here. I hope you have the weather for taking a spin where you are.:)

Nice scooter, OP.

Now, you should know that in short time, you will be tempted by other more pricey, slinky, and sexy bikes, as well as all manner of expensive kit and bike parts. This is normal.

Oh yes, I have more that adequate weather for a spin. I live in TexaS. Only thing stopping me now is I am waiting on my new shoes to come in. I can't wait. They should be here monday!

I just wanted to add that I finally got to take an actual ride on the Motobecane today since my new shoes finally arrived. It was a short 20 mile ride since it is fairly windy and cool out today but the bike performed flawlessly. Seems to be alot lighter, and more responsive than my old walmart junk bike and the components shift very good and smooth. I really think I made a good decision on my first real road bike and I don't regret it one bit. I plan on a 50 miler tomorrow if the weather holds out. It will take a little getting use to clipping into the pedals but not too bad so far. I almost fell in my living room trying them out since this is my first time being attached to my pedals. Anyway, just wanted to share!
Oh I almost forgot. I was looking around on the bike forums website and they really dislike the motobecanes there. Thanks for not giving me a hard time for buying a great performing road bike at a fraction of the price of a name brand. I will not be back at Bikeforums.net because of that. Thanks!

And whats with the spammers on this web site?

The spammers are here because the moderators allow it. It is getting very irritating. I predict that this forum will soon only contain posts by the spammers and be called spamforums.com.

Which spammers do you mean: the Viagra spammers, the Nike spammers, or James the Bike Blog spammer? All three suck mightily and should be the first ones up against the wall when the revolution starts.

Good on ya' for diggin' the bike. As for people and their opinions of Motobecane, I think the dislike is aimed more at Bikes Direct than Moto. BD has used some very questionable sales tactics. The Moto frames, though, are fine. Hell, some of 'em are even the exact same frame as some of the Fujis.

Ride what you like, and let everyone else ********.

Thanks for the support and I am speaking of the spammers on your list. I had to look through lik 2 pages of spam to find anything to read because of them!

Yup. At times, it does get bad. Like love, it comes in spurts.

Some of BikesDirect's marketing hype is patently false, and some of the MSRPs are a joke, but if you know what you're after and can read between the lines and do the final assembly (or know someone who can), they're a good value.

Some bikes have apparently been shipped with badly seated tires, tubes, and rim tapes, so I'd suggest checking this out before you get too far from home.

I have already ridden almost 100 miles on the bike and I have not had any problems yet. I am about to go on a 50 mile ride in about 10 min. so I will keep an eye out! Thanks!
