OK, ok, I know... Lose weight and climbing will be easier! But until then...

I'm curious as to whether anyone has put mountain chainrings/cassette and deraileurs on road or cross frame.

Hills are both my freind and my enemy!

Thanks!

Yeah. Start with a big cog cassette and mtb deriler to shift it.

The chainstay on a 26" hardtail is substantially closer to level than it is on a 700c road bike, so there isn't as much clearance between the bottom of a mountain front derailleur and a road chainstay. It's even possible that the derailleur will have to be mounted so high on the seat tube that the shifting will suffer because of the large gap between the derailleur and the large chain ring.

The use of mountain cassettes and rear deraillers on a road frame for cyclocross or loaded touring is quite common.

Have you looked into a 26-36-46 touring triple like the Sugino XD500?
