Hi,

Can anyone recommend campsites/lodges in France which would be a good
base for a selection of XC scenic rides of medium level - my wife is
not crazy about single track and extreme downhills.

If your in camping mode, there's a decent campground right above
Gordes (http://www.campingdessources.com/en/). You're right around the
Lavender area, weekly market (Tuesday?), nearby restaurants (all
downhill from campground) in Gordes. I've done a couple rides in the
area and it's mainly fireroads, with a smattering of singletrack.
There's another quiet campground that I've seen in the Fontaine de
Vaucluse that's right next to the Vaucluse. I think it was a bit
quieter than the one in Gordes as the road dead-ends in the valley.

Good luck. I'm more of a villa person myself. I like the outdoors, but
with a refrigerator stocked with beer at the end of the trail. At
least a pastis (with ice & water) or a few bottles of the "vin rouge".
