Google the Florida Freewheelers. Great Orlando-based club with lots of activities/events.

Olando is an excellent cycling area. The Free Wheelers is a big club who is very active with of lots of activities. They have a century that goes through Cape Canaveral that I've been wanting to try. There is lots of cycling going on just north or Orlando in Gainesville. Both of my children live in Orlando and I have spent a lot of time there. There are no hills to climb. They have unique rides through the old historic district. Good luck with your move and keep us posted. There will be no end to your cycling in Orlando. If I can help you with anything, let me know. I live just South of Orlando in Sebring. We have the Tour de Sebring in September. You've got to come for that. It's also where they held the 24-hour race a week or so ago. I got to help usher and it was awesome.

Clermont is your area if you are looking for much climbing in the Orlando area. Sugarloaf Mountain Road is well known in Central Florida. There is a race coming up soon, check it out:

Here's a discussion of the event on a local bulletin board:

I live in the Orlando area. We have great trails if that is what you are into. The West Orange Trail goes from Apopka all the way to Clermont. I rode it this morning! At the end of that trail are roads that lead to Clermont for hill training.

The best local bike shop is David's World Cycle. They have four locations. They have a racing team called Team 19. They sponsor some great team training rides at which anyone who can keep up is welcome. The Lake Mary location has some very fast training rides if that is what you are into.

Florida Freewheelers is more casual group riding. The Windermere Roadies have some VERY fast training rides. Below are some links to some of that stuff. Suffice to say, whatever you are into, Orlando has it.

If you have other specific questions, like which bike shop deals in which brands, etc. Let me know. I am a Trek rider and am loyal to David's World. Orange Cycle has Cannondale and Specialized.
