We all have differing opinions on the Paris-Roubaix situation with the train crossing and the DisQualification of the 3 riders. Emotions run high when your favorite rider gets action taken against him when it seems unjustified. But in the end , we look to the people in charge to make decisions that are level headed and not emotion based.
With Mr McQuaid's hiring I was thinking that maybe we had a man that would bring some stability to cycling considering all the problems cycling has been going through with [censored] Pound and etc......
I was disappointed in his assement of the Paris-Roubaix debacle.
Pat McQuaid......
"From my point of view, the most important thing is that you must consider all the young cyclists who were watching that television coverage yesterday. If they saw those riders going through those gates and took that as example of what you can do and get away with, you can imagine the potential danger in future races."
Let's look at this .....We have professional cycling that has made more news in the last 7 years about the riders and drugs then anything else.
Sometimes it's hard to know if the media is at the TDF or a Grateful Dead concert of old..
We have a sport where the police raid homes and rooms on a consistent basis like cyclists are terrorists or something.
We have a sport that the riders fought wearing helmets in races when they shot down descents at unbelievable speeds....
We have a sport that pushes riders in the Grand Tours to unbelievable limits of human endurance at a cost to the body. And we glorify these men.
And now we have the leader of the sport body telling us that the riders should set good examples for the young ones......
Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy??????
