FWIW, in 1995 I rode L'Alpe in 1:50. Now, I was 41 at the time and had
already pedaled the thirty odd miles from Grenoble to the base of the climb
(Bourg D'Oisan). I was on a robust mountain bike rental, and I was carrying
all my eats, fluids for the day in a back pack.

In 2000, I ran a 2:59 marathon in Lance's hometown.

It's a close call, but if Kristin's 3:48 was on a flat course, my vote would
go to the Crow-inator.

Any current photos of Kristin out there?

Just curious, have you ridden it? I would suggest at least a three-speed.

Dumbass. Just because she may have wanted Lance around more doesn't
mean she isn't seeing the kids plenty. And marathon training doesn't
take that much time each week, especially for someone who works at
home as a mother and needn't commute much.

Impressive time even if you've got an estranged ex-husband chasing you
on a bike, swinging a butcher knife.

For about 10 glorious hours in January 2000, I was the 5th fastest in
the world over the marathon distance with a time of 3:48.

(The local running group decided to run a marathon starting at midnight
here in NZ. One guy ran barefoot. My training for this consisted of a
10km run in October and a 42km mountain run 3 days before.)

It depends on your point of view.

To a sub-3 hour marathoner like yourself, 3:48 is darn slow.
To MOST PEOPLE who have run marathons, anything under 4 hours
is impressive.

I think any marathon 2:59 or faster is extremely impressive.
That is sub-7 minute miles and to me, fairly mind blowing.

I could manage 6 minute miles for a couple at a time but could
only do 7:59 miles for my marathon P.R.

So, we await your impressive reply.

I think a 3:48 marathoner is akin to a 6-7 hour century rider..

i happen to be a sub 3 hour marathoner with a pr of 2:36 and i was very
impressed by kirstin's first effort in the marathon.

Since when is it wrong to rip on people in rbr?

Geez, from the reaction I got, you'd think I'd compared her to
Yoko Ono or something.

Funny, I was thinking just the opposite. I can comfortably climb l'Alpe
d'Huez in under one hour and used to run <40 min 10km. But I know there is
no way I can comfortably do a 3:48 marathon. ...guess that's why I ride now
instead of run!

Roland -- what's your Marathon P.R.??

ken..

my point of view is this..
most people who effectively train for a century..and have proper gear,etc..and
aren't racers riders will complete it in 6-7 hours..

most people who effectively prepare for a marathon will do it under 4...

this isn't about PR's...but if you like..i will give you them if it will make
you feel better

Compared to most of America she's a wonder. I know what I'd do going up that
climb. Got a calendar to time me with?
It always seems to get around to every female that isn't at least 38D needs
augmentation. I strenuosly disagree.
This last weekend two of our club females came back to racing after having
kids. They both looked great, the both looked to be even leaner than before the
time off the bike.
Male fixation with female **** jobs says a lot about the depth of male emotion
and intellect. I think the RBR women who no one is going to accuse of being
shrinking violets should start a drive to demand that male riders get penile
enlargemant so they fill out those shorts.

I thought that was what lycra was for.

Some guy named Bills or Mills was on local radio last night. He was the
amateur coach who "discovered" Lance, reportedly.

He said Sheryl Crow looks a LOT nicer from farther away than close up.

Big jugs add weight slowing the rider on the climb. How many Pro women
especially the climbers have big jugs or have implants? Probably none. LZ
had big jugs, but not when she was winning stage races. Podium babes are one
thing, but for Pro girls now, many are pretty cute without big jugs. Look at
Nicole Brandli? She is a knockout and the idea that she needs a **** job is
riduculous to me.

Hey clueless (i.e., marathon52),

Did you not happen to notice Sam's email address? He knows far more about
running than most of those posting to this newsgroup, including, I believe,
you.
