Mt Greylock, Mass (Roadbike)

When we climbed Mt. Greylock one winter back in 1965 or 1966 on the
Thunderbolt Ski Trail, it was one cold, windy day.

December for Mt. Greylock (I'm assuming you mean Massachuttes)?

You could get lucky or not as far as weather is concerned. Now in the
Northeast we're having a mild spell for this time of year. It has been
in the 40's-50's.

There are numerous approaches. North, and south as well as west. But
from most main roads you are probably no more than 5 miles from the
top.

The ridge runs north-south so those approaches will be less steep.
When I drove up it a few years ago I didn't remember anything really
long that was really steep. There are probably a few spots that get
steep but don't last long.

On the top is a facility maintained (or was) by the AMC. Don't know if
it will be open but they run a lodge with food available. AMC.org for
details. You'll also find a memorial to war veterans.

In the area. Pittsfield is nice and has a pretty good natural history
museum. In Adams you'll find good theater but it may not be as good as
in the summer. In Stockbridge you can eat in the restaurant that has
replaced Alice's restaurant of the famous song. You can also visit the
Normal Rockwell museum (big thumbs up from me). There are also other
art galleries. Related to weather you could skip the bike ride for
skiing at Jiminy Peak or Bromley (?).

Restaurants are pretty good. The area is known for arts and has a good
range of restaurants. Don't know what is there now so you're on your
own but expect better than average.
