MTB or Road Bike

G'day Bob;

Depends entirely on your ride style, and what sort of riding
you will be doing.

If you'll be mostly riding on sealed roads, and want to go
fast get a road bikes, if uou want to ride off road, through
grass, jumping gutters ect. get a mountain bike.

A road bike will generaly be capable of going faster then a
mountain bike due to its light weight and higher gearing,
but I know people who can average 35-37Km/h on a mountain bike
over a one hour commute...

If you buy a road bike make sure the store takes the time to
fit it to you, otherwise they can be amazingly painful to
ride, the store should not only check the seat height but
look at the lenght of the stem and the fore-aft adjustment
of the saddle too, idealy they should have you on the bike
in a training to get a good position.

If you buy a mountain bike you can ride it wherever it suits you on
the day, if you go with a road bike you`ll be commited to keeping it
on the road.

If we had bike paths everywhere I'd say get a roadie. Nothing worse than
bailing off the shoulder of the road because some idiot in a car closes
you out. Trashed rims are expensive. Si I'd go with a good quality MTB.
Spend as much as you can. You will be glad you did 😉
