Mudguard fitting

Probably not, although 1.5" is quite a distance. The best thing is just
to try it and see! Brakes always get soaked in water in the rain,
mudguard or not, so I can't see it affecting braking in any way.

Anyway, I thought a skunk stripe up the back was cool - so many kids
have them in the wet that it must be cool!

In a bid to cut down the amount of washing needed, I've finally fitted
a set of mudguards to it. These are SKS 26 inch x 60mm, branded as
suitable for 26 x 1.90 tyres which he has.

No - it will work better than the clip-on mudguards sold for suspension
forks. Most of the water and muck thrown up by the front wheel ends up
on your feet or transmission, and the 'proper' SKS guards stop most of
that. If he finds spray is being thrown up in his face you can fit a
mudflap at the front of the guard, and one at the back will channel
runoff more directly towards the road.
