I had an old zefal frame mount pump that I bought in the late 80s that lasted for years and had an equally old floor pump of unknown manufacture that lasted for at least ten years. both were schraeder and required a small brass adapter for presta valves, but they worked flawlessly. In the past ten years, I have been through no less than 8 of these multivalve pumps (presta and shraeder) from various manufacturers and they all seem to stink. They work for about a year and then they can't inflate to the higher pressures, and can't really adapt to a presta valve. I finally just bought a presta adapter for my compressor.

What gives?

Hacked by Chinese?

Just so you know...you can still by the classic Zefal pumps: http://www.zefal.com/en/

You can also buy most of the other models from the '70's and 80's.

I'm still using an old 1970 Medai floor pump (Schrader chuck only. I use a Presta adaptor with it). You can't buy a Medai in the States today, but you can buy a Chinese clone. It looks like the exact same model, detail for detail.
