My Leg Has A Swelling

The back of my leg, right behind the shin has a so called mouse, that looks like a swelling of the muscle. I had already consulted 2 doctors on this problem but they have no clear opinion. The only concrete thing they can say it a pulled muscle so I should not engage in strenuous physical activity. The appearance of the mouse is continual, like now you see it and tomorrow it's gone. The only remedy for now is the hot compress where I place my foot on a pillow and the hot compress underneath. That session takes 5 minutes and the muscle would be relaxed.

Any opinion on this? I would want to post a pic but I get an error in uploading.

I'm not sure this is the right spot for this. I mean I guess it fits in the topic, but seems like a less than useful way to get help with this. As for medical advice best to leave that to medical professionals imho.

Ice always help, so do a lot of ice on it whenever you can. Also, I'd check an osteopath, they are great as far as I see it.

I'm hoping that you've been icing it and plan on seeing a doctor within the next few days. Although we all have our own remedies for injuries, nothing beats going to a medical professional, and most of us here probably aren't medical professionals in any capacity.

Hmm, I have never tried ice on my leg's mouse. How about it, huh? It's always hot compress that I'm applying every other night and it relieves the swelling. By the way, the pain is not much and I can live with it. Sometimes I stick a patch, the Chinese patch called Salonpas that is warm. And like the hot compress, the patch somehow relieves the swelling. I am looking for another specialist who I hope would give a more definite diagnosis on my problem. And when it is solved, I probably would buy a new bike.

Well, you're supposed to alternative between hot and cold, so a hot pack and then some ice. The alternating period is like 20 minutes each or something, although some people do prefer to use hot or cold but not both. If it's going to go away by itself, then I wouldn't worry about things too much, but something more serious is obviously wrong if the pain and swelling lasts for more than a few days.

You have to remember the acronym, I.C.E.

That stand for ice, compression, and elevation. If it is a mouse the you refer it to, it is a a bump that is caused by a direct hit and causes swelling in the said area. Anything that swells need to be on ice. You body is reacting to the trauma by sending extra blood and T cells to the area. There is a such thing as too much blood, which leads to prolonged and uncomfortable swelling. All doctors should know this. If they didn't then they are idiots.

By placing heat on the injured inflamed body part you are making it worse. Blood is already rushing to the area. Why would you want to open the veins more with heat packs?

Keep it on ice and elevate it above your heart to bring down the swelling. You can also take anit inflammatory pills to bring down the swelling. Just go to the local generic pharmacy and buy ibuprofen.

The only advice I can really add is to rest your leg and avoid too much physical activity until it starts getting better. Sometimes even gentle exercise can aggravate a condition enough to hinder recovery. If possible, try to take a couple days to rest and stay off your leg and see if that helps. For certain things your body needs quiet time to recover more than anything, and it definitely can't hurt!

Also, do you wear insoles or anything? A pair of supportive shoes might make a difference, as well as a calf support sleeve or compression stocking. You can usually find those at the pharmacy and it helps protect you from further strain as well as helping your circulation. The pharmacist can assist in finding one that fits properly and suits your needs.

I hope you find something that works and have a fast recovery!

Thanks very much for all the advice and suggestions.

For more details of my injury, we really don't know what it is. Even the doctors say that it might be trauma but when I would say that the mouse would appear out of nowhere (for no reason at all), the doctors are at a loss. I am now tempted to consult an herbalist for this. Whenever I would feel that the swelling is about to start, I would put up my foot and let it rest for at least 5 minutes. Even when I am in the office, I do that and it eases the swelling.

As I live in the Philippines also, I know for a fact that it has a lot of unhealthy food. You are eating and drinking way to much highly processed foods and sugary drinks. Every Filipino dish I know is swimming in vegetable oil (cancerous) and is either salty or loaded with sugar. Your body is showing the effects of prolonged consumption of the said food and drinks.

Interesting post. I am wondering which leg, right or left? The doctors don't know, experts who went to college with a degree. They call it a mouse.
Big sigh here. I had something similar to this. The doctors know what it is. I did not really have any pain though with what I had. The doctor I went to said, "that is not going away." Lol He clearly seemed to know what it was but would not say. I think you have something under the skin. Hot and cold application is not exactly going to do it. Mine went away but with a great deal of effort and experiment.
Yours is somewhat different so I'm thinking I would soak it in epsom salt baths. I would also try taking some boiled water with the same salts in a pot. Dip some gauze with a spoon in. Take it out to cool. Ring solution out when it's cooler. Place it over the bump. This will draw it out. There is something under the skin that doesn't belong there. Your body is rejecting it.
Either way, if it is your muscle, which I don't think it is. Or if it is something under the skin, the epsom will draw out anything foreign and it will help considerably with the pain.
I'm in agreement with JoshPosh; definitely get rid of all processed foods. Eat as clean as you can. GMO's collect and cause pain. I have something going on right now like this in my Achilles tendon. It's three small red bumps in a row that comes up after running and taking a hot shower. Something is there. A collection of toxins or whatever. It's odd cause it's all in a row. There is pain with this though. I use the epsom salts and get relief. It seems to be coming out. I also use a sauna to detoxify the body.
Hopefully you figure it out. It's annoying when doctors are not competent enough to solve something because you still have to pay them for their time.
