  1. im terreble at backstroke and i want to improve but i don't
know what to do. when i do backstroke i cant go in a
straight line i always swerve all over the lane. i also cant
seem to master the flipturn for backstroke. when ever i try
i end up practically drowning. lol and if i don't do the
flip turn i crash into the wall.(and that hurts! lol)

so if any one has any tips im all ears! thanx ~k

  2. Just keep your head ina neutral position - ears in water, and keep your hips
high in the water. To do this you also need to develop a good kick.
Remember the Backstroke kick is NOT the same as a freestyle kick - in B/S
the feet kick up towards the surface -ie in front of you. With regards to
the flip turn - maybe you should first count how many strokes it is from the
flags into the wall when you swim - the flags are there for that very
reason. More when you develop this.

    snip

also note, the kick originates at the hips, not at the knees
as so many people I see in the pool seem to think. the
entire leg is involved in the kicking process with a minor
bend in the knee. good ankle flexibility also helps.
practice kicking by itself with your arms hyperextended over
your head. keep your head level and look straight up. if you
tilt your head to your chest, your legs will sink, if you
pull it back, they will rise.
