Hey,
i have decided after years of road cycling to go back to my roots, dust down me old faithful mountain bike and give it a whirl round the local trails. Thing is though, its been in the garage for years and is about 10 years old. The componets are just as old. So i am gonna kit it back out with new parts, but the thing is, technology has moved on and i dont know if the new stuff will fit my bike. The frame i am keeping because its a American made Easton Elite XC frame, expensive in its day and i still like it...
so my stuff is mostly oldskool Shimano LX and STX bits. First up, it needs a new rear derailer, chainset, cassette, all that stuff.
my rear derailer is 8 speed, standard thing the shifters are STX and the gear cable is routed along the top tube and down the seat stay...would a new one like this fit it?

The wheels are new, with XT 8 speed hubs..if that makes a difference..
i am hopefully looking to spend £400 ish on new forks and transmission and a few other bits and pieces..
