  1. A little background, I do marathon walks every 6 months.
Last fall I sprained my ankle when the walk went on grass. I
have been trying to get it to heal. This past weekend was
another marathon walk, I discovered that the ankle wasn't
quite healed yet, but walked on it anyway. (Yeah, I know it
    was dumb.)

Here is the question ... In October, I have another marathon
walk. What exercises or other treatments can I do to help
the healing and strengthen the ankle so I can walk 30 miles
    in two days without pain?

    Thanks for any help, Erin-Joi

If you think that something small cannot make a difference---
try sleeping with a mosquito in the room.

If I told you that I was walking 30 or 39 miles in 2 days to
help women with undetected breast cancer find out early
enough to survive, would you support me?

  2. I don't do marathons, but I do run & walk 12-20 miles/week.
I sprained my ankle in Feb. I went to the doctor (my
friendly ortho) to make sure it was only a sprain, then went
to physical therapy for several sessions -- exercise
instruction, ultrasound, e-stim, massage. I didn't use any
taping and didn't "rest" -- but did limit to only walking (&
less mileage) for a few weeks, resuming jogging gradually. I
was pretty good about doing my home-exercise program for
ankles -- strength, balance, stability exercises -- all
prescribed by my friendly p.t. for my specific needs.

I'm back to "normal" activity now, with only some occasional
discomfort. Eight weeks after my injury I was running in a
5-mile race and things have only gotten better since then.

If you are still having trouble after this much time, either
you haven't given it a chance to heal, or you're continuing
to re-injure it in some way, or there's something else
wrong. JMO. Have you seen a medic about it? Best wishes. bj
