New CCM Torque Rider In Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Looking to go riding.

Awwww Yeeeeeeaaa....

Well, I was going to bust a nut and go with a Giant VT-3
($1,500CDN) for my introduction to Dual Suspension, but I
crapped out and figured It'd be in my best interest to both
myself and my wallet to kick the **** out of a mainstreamer
CCM Torque from Craptacular Tire... I can at least get
myself familiar with Dual Suspension rides over the summer
and if I punish it bad enough, maybe I'll go with the VT-3
next summer.

I'm thoroughly impressed with its abilities thus far,
considering what I paid for it... I ended up paying half its
retail price because the store wanted to liquidate stock
2003 stock, so it only hit me up $300 vs $500 for it's
marketed retail price (before tax.mind you)

All Aluminum Y frame, with a swing arm and Juice DH Forks,
Linear V-Brakes (they're a hell of a lot better than those
shitty old Mono V-Brakes, but not as good as disc)

I need to invest in some body armour and a helmet but I
don't want to buy a helmet that looks gay... Anyone have any
suggestions?

trolling, throw your CCM piece of **** of a toy off of the
nearest cliff, go buy a used rigid, HT, or FS with the money
you'll save in medical bills, and then come back to a.m-b.
We talk about mountain biking here, unfortunately that
sometimes includes adult bmx, urban, racing, and other
entirely off-topic issues but

The following suggestion assumes you are a male. Here's what
you should do. Go to the local bike shop and start trying on
helmets. When the sales guy asks if he can help, keep trying
on helmets and ask him if they make your ass look big. If he
says yes, then buy that helmet. It's obviously not a gay
helmet if he's noticing how fat your ass is rather than how
gay your helmet looks. Or you could ask him if wearing a
certain helmet causes him to become aroused. That would be
another indication of a gay helmet. Avoid pink, anything
flowered, or anything marked "ladies". Or you could just
kill yourself, which appears likely if you actually ride the
bike you purchased.

Unlike everyone out ther who has millions of dollars to
spend on a bike, when they realy dont need it., i also have
a CCM. its cheap, its 4 yrs old, and its still working. And
to boot, i can keep up with a friend of mine whom has a
$5000 KHS.

As far as a helmet, what do you concider "gay".Look at the
ones at Crappy tire, then look at the ones at ur local bike
store. try some on. Oce you find one that feels good, and
looks good, buy it.

If you are over 18, the law in Ontario for helmets doesnt
apply. Its better to look like a dork, or have a "gay"
helmet, then to be in a hospital for another concussion.

off for a Warp 2. Far better then the CCM.

Don't let this newsgroup get you down. Beat the **** out of
your new ride... when it's broke or you feel like you need
an upgrade, then bust your nut on a VT-3... you'll love the
bike. I was riding pieces of **** 2 years ago... now I have
3 nice bikes and I know what to do with them.

alt.mountain-bike likes to beat down anything that's not uber-
expensive... it's not you.

Kris, spend some time and scan some historic posts here.
Some folks are posers, some are hard-core, some are weekend
warriors. Many have good knowledge and advice for new
entrants to the game. Not many cut slack for newbies when
their posts are inflamatory. Spending $300 on a new FS ride
and buying armor to play downhiller?

The reality (not a dig) is that you can't get a decent
downhill fork for that money. Challenging that bike is more
likely to get you hurt than stoked.

Understood. I wasn't intending on going out and taking on
suicidal decents or extreme biking in the sense that I'd be
putting my life at risk because I'm only a novice MTB rider
(which I hope to improve via a less costly investment.)
