New crank with 8 speed cassette

I have an eight speed cassette and shifter and want to replace the crank and BB with a new one. Is there any issue with using a newer crank that is normally used with a nine speed cassette?

If the crank is a 9 speed then use a 9 speed chain, the pins and ramps will then match the chain.
