Over the next five years as it currently stands we face losing our sub standard 400m outdoor track (built for 1974 Commonwealth Games) and having it replaced with a 250m concrete outdoor facility. We haven't given up hope of getting an indoor track but need to make credible submissions on the volume of use for a track and the benefit to the community as a whole. We have plenty of ideas but are always looking for more to add weight to our argument.

What programmes are people running to maintain high track usage and what benefits are you finding from doing so?

Regards

I have seen two very different realities, swiss organisation in geneva's indoor 250 mt wooden vel d'hiver and racers-only use of the outdoor concrete 333 meter velodrome in my area. In Geneva you pay a fee and get an ID. card with your data and your photo, schedules and facilities are open for all the community. On the other example you have to go to the track, see if anyone is riding and ask for permission, informally, to use the track. With traffic and all it takes 1 hour to get there and many times you come back home without riding at all !

he purpose built track has been engineered in Germany by Velotrack, the team that built the velodromes for the Atlanta Olympics and the Delhi Commonwealth Games. The Red Bull Mini Drome track will maintain race-worthy
