  1. Hi guys.

I joined this NG last night and immediately [censored] Lance. Sorry
dude! I just soooo align with Doug. Having a beer in public is quite
acceptable here in South Africa - no I'm not the idiot who thinks that
Jessie Owen didn't exist...;-). Maybe we all should learn to relax a
bit and allow each other some space for own opinions and behaviours.
Tollerance is good! Learn from it.

Anyway, I'm 50 years old and have been running for 22 years (ouch,
seems like yesterday). I've done over 60 marathons. Best as a senior
    was 2:44, 2:45 as a 40+ and 2:57 earlier this year as a 50+.

Thanks for the plug on the Western Cape, Lance. It IS a lovely place
to run. We have some amazing races here. My favourite and most
popular race in Cape Town is The Two Oceans ultra (56km). I did my
20th one this last Easter (4:07). My permanent number (allocated after
    your 10th) is 650.

Doug, I notice you asked about the "Oceans" a few years ago on this NG.
Hope you got the info you were looking for. If not, feel free to ask
me or check the website at twooceansmarathon.org.za. Lots of info
    there.

It's winter here now, but lots of my mates are still piling in the
training for the Comrades ultra marathon (+/-90km) taking place on 16
June. I only did 2 of these...a bit too far for me.

I'm only running 3 or 4 times a week at the moment, focusing on quality
with the odd shorter race thrown in. Ran a lovely half marathon last
Sat...mainly on dirt roads. Managed 3rd old man spot (88 mins) and was
pretty chuffed with the morning. (Had a beer. And bought some wine at
the local winery on the way home).

I look forward to a constructive experience.

    Regards.
    Garry

WELCOME Garry. The more experienced runners contributing, the better
    the information.
