I know what I like width wise, but what 'gauge's are there for the diuameter of the bar itself that i need to look for to accomodate my stem?

Its a 1"inch steerer but ahead stem to my old(98) Cinelli bars (dont know model). I have seen reference to 'fatter' bars and stems but is there more than just these 2 diameters?

Plan is to put my current bars on the commuter-fixie and nice new bars on my roadbike

The new diameter is the oversized, mtb-style 31.8mm. Older stuff
can be multiple sizes (26, 26.4 and more I think?). 31.8 wont fit the
old stems and you have to be careful with the 26/26.4 sizes..

Best thing to do is take the bike to the shop when getting the bars
and make sure it's the correct diameter. If your old bars don't fit the
other bike, put them on ebay and buy a set that do..
