Hi all! new to the forum! Im 17 yrs old, 5'3 and 123 lbs. I want a bike that I could use an urban environment (where i would be using most) as well as a nature-y environment (parks, hills). I dont want a very expensive bike as I live in Los Angeles and bike theft is a big problem here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

If you are not in the hilly part of LA County, then just go to WalMart and get their Single Speed bike which I think costs somewhere in the $100-to-$150 range (MSRP) ... less if you can get it when it is "on sale" ...

If necessary, you CAN change the gearing by buying a different BMX Freewheel to make the pedaling easier (more teeth on the Freewheel) OR to allow you to go faster with the same effort (less teeth on the Freewheel) ...

  • I recommend ACS Freewheels check www.danscomp.com
  • you need to know whether the teeth are 3/32" or 1/8" wide you can use a 3/32" Freewheel with a 1/8" chain
  • but, not vice-versa
[*]you will need a TOOL to remove the current Freewheel
  • hopefully, the ACS tool will work with the Freewheel which is on the bike
