Hey everyone, Im new to bikes, Im looking at purchasing a trek 3700 or 3900, I was just browsing through bikes and Im wondering what the crankset numbers mean.....for example on the Trek 3900 Crank: SR 42/34/24 ..... I cant find any solid answer to what these numbers are, Im thinking it could be the diameter in mm of the 3 chain gears on the crank?

And the SR is Sake Ringiyo, the company. (not the best but alright unless youre a jumper)

alright thanks, well Im brand new to the sport, just looking for entry level gear to get well, entered into the level. I hope to frequent the forum, Im already an avid jeeper, and hope to tie biking into it all.

id say Sun Race actually, ive never heard of the other brand and sunrace is pretty popular on lower end bikes

SunRace uses is usually easily discernable. Sake Ringiyo is very common among early 90's american and still very common on imported bikes.
