  1. Hi all !

It's been a year since I've been reading this newsgroup and I found it
to be a good source of information and also motivation. As an
absolutely amateur runner I don't know a lot about the theory so I will
be asking questions rather than giving advice. In fact, terms such as
'information leech' and 'chronic lurker' describe me well. English and
imperial units are foreign languages for me so please bear with my me.

    Some basic data about myself:
    Age: 32
    Height: 1.77 m
    Wieght: 68 kg

I've been a jogger since I was 18 and became a runner about 3 years ago
when I started running in 10k races and half marathons . I recently
completed my first marathon with a time of 3:40 (Buenos Aires marathon
held on Oct. 9). My goal was 3:30 and I was able to keep a 5 min/km
pace until km 36 where I bonked - my pace went down to over 6 min/km
and I even had to walk for 500 - 600 m. I think that the reason why
this happened to me was that my 'long' sunday runs weren't long enough:
only 24 km. In fact the longest run before the marathon was a 30 km
race a month before it, which I completed in 2:20.

My goals for the next six months:
Complete a sub 3:30 marathon with no walks.
Do a sub 40 min 10 km race.

Thanks to all for all the race reports and good information and
    discussions.

Welcome to the group, Alejandro. Well, welcome as a
    known poster! 🙂

Your first marathon sounds to me to have been a pretty
decent first attempt. A few short walk breaks here and
there not a huge slowdown at all, again considering your
admitted training problems and inexperience with the
    distance.

My advice to you would be to work on one or the other,
in terms of your two goals. It's tough to effectively train
for both the marathon and 10k at once and be your best.

    cheers,
