New wheels need help!

Rest easy, mate. 8, 9 and 10 speed all essentially have the same width cassette (well, the 10 is ever so slightly narrower). They just have smaller spacers betwen each cog of the cassette to compensate for a difference in cable pull. No matter, 8/9 all play well together. Mavics normally have a small spacer that goes between the hub and the casette for all speed ranges.
Slap on your 8 speed casette and pedal away to your Econ 101 class.
