A triple provides a wider range of gear selection to enable you to shift down to a lower gear combination for easier climbing on steep grades. Unless you're planning to ride in hilly areas you probably don't need a triple.

Just a little more clarification, a triple will have three chainrings in front, a double will have only two. The advantage of a triple is that it will give you a range of extremely low gears which you may or may not use, depending upon the terrain that you are riding. The downside is that it does add weight and the front derailer must be specifically designed for a triple chainset. There are also chain length issues invoved.
