This will affect Hadrians Cycleway, Reivers Route and C2C (Tynemouth)
The redevelopment of old Smiths Docks has begun. On completion this means that the above routes can be adjusted away from light commercial grot and a poor housing backwater, to a nice gentle incline connecting Ballast Hill Road (Royal Quays Estate) to New Quay (next to Shields Ferry Landing). This will be an improvement for us.
I dunno the timetable for completion. I will find out and report back.

Nice. So I take it this will this provide a more direct route through to Tynemouth, as the final third gets pretty messy when cutting in and out of housing and industrial estates.
Just wish they'd improve the paving alongside the coast road. Would love to take my road bike through this route, but the paving is in such poor condition I fear my carbon frame will just snap! This one is MTB only at the moment.
