What's this comeuppance thing?
You know, before I read mhonk's post I was feeling that there was a bit of bitterness in here about
elite roadies, but I dismissed that as we are all pedaling bi/tricycles with our own power so we
should all be on the same page. I got bad vibes from guys like Seth, and now reading mhonk I see
there really is strong resentment towards guys like me, just because I look great on the bike it
seems that recreational types take that as a bad thing.
I've been trying to be an ambassordor for elite roadies, this is a real setback, but I must stay the
course and show North Americans just what real road cycling is all about. [/B][/QUOTE]
Dear Mr Mazzol,
i am a commuter as well as a rec rider with hopes of getting in good enough shape to be able to ride with enough layers to ride through the winter. maybe not the speed or the distance that you can do but im still under my own power. i dont have any resentment toward you for what you ride. its your attitude. the same attitude that pisses off people in cars if you are a " Ambassordor for the elite roadies" the few post of yours ive read dont seem very promising for the roadies. im more worried about how you reflect upon the rest of us bikers. I know many who pray to the internal combustion god who would just as soon see you, me, or any other person on a bike in the grill of there vehicle. Lucky for us most folks dont really react to there urges to lash out.
And as to how good you look on your bike " beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I have no delusion about how i look, fat guy on a junk pile bent, but im not doing this to look good im doing this so i feel better and have more energy to do the things i want.
now ive got a question about recreational bikers that most "elites" seem to stub thier noses at. ive always wonderd why they/im held in such low esteme is it because we dont wear the brite outfits or spend enough on our rides? or becouse we dont go fast enough? help a newbie understand why they seem to feel that we are not worth the time to even mumble a hi as they ride by. i know sometimes you dont notice others but it seems most roadies wont give ya the time of day. I know they are around i see them form time to time the few ive rode near that would even act like they seen me look at me like im a freak of nature( maybe i am:>) lol
