So, does that mean he's doping for free? If so, where does he get free dope? Why would an Italian have a tattoo in English? All kinds of questions now.

I don't know about that tattoo... I like Cunego and am always glad when he does well, but he doesn't need this kind of exposure.
It's good idea, good metaphor, to use tattoo (which is commonly used to cover needle traces) to send a message.
But, in current time (of hypocrisy in cycling) it's little awkward.
The best way to spread the message is: not to fail the test, not to have suspicious connections with compromised doctors, to do everything to avoid the rumors and to do well in races.

The problem with the tattoo is that if he ever gets busted he's going too look like a total ass.
I thought the rumors about Cunego were that he was a major EPO user as an amateur. Then again with his Giro and his classics wins he can already count himself as having a very successful career, even if he never wins anything again. He may have decided that the safest thing to do is to play it straight going forward.

Cunego wants to become the 'leader' of the Italian peloton, and he is already the darling of the Italian cycling press. This is part of his 'media campaign'. Whether he is serious about racing clean or not is another matter completely.
I agree completely with your view. In the meantime Dario Frigo risks a year of prison for the doping products found in the wifes luggage. He has not tried to deny the use of doping products, but has talked of it being part of organized team doping.
