  1. I can't keep some snacks in the house either. I do pretty good staying out of icecream, but any
baked goods are deadly, as well as any chocolate. I even have a hard time w/ things like the cookie
dough slim fast bars. I just don't buy them b/c I can't do it.

Yeah, I know about Flexpoints. And believe me, I use 'em. But I'd rather use activity points than
    Flexpoints.

Honestly, the main reason I avoid having things like this in the house is that after the 1st day
or two of being good and eating just one per day, something flips and I have a hard time
controlling the urge to eat them all at once. I've decided I'm just no longer interested in
beating myself up or wondering what's wrong with me when I'm not able to practice restraint... I
take the easy way out and just don't allow them in the house.

Nightly napping to avoid the evening snack, eh? From what you've said in other posts about
competing for time on your new computer, I'd say those naps serve a dual purpose. LOL

    Flexpoints dear - that's what they're there for! <G> I think I figured these out at 2.5 (or 2)
points each. 130cal/2g fat/2g fiber = 2.37US points. I also was out of the skinny cow habit, maybe
got a bit tired of them. BUT ... the peppermint ones looked soooooooooooo good ... I am once again
hooked. I have found that nightly napping has helped to squelch the urge - sleep right through the
snacking time. Although it means I am pounding away on my puter at 4AM. <G>

Has any of this helped? LOL

But pink peppermint Skinny Cows??!! I'd gotten myself out of the Skinny Cow habit, but now
I'll have to find a way to cut out some other points to give these a try. Or snowblow the

  2. I may have misspoke. I just checked locations on www.missmeringue.com and saw several stores listed.
The next time I'm grocery shopping I'll have to check again. Curious. For several months, I couldn't
find a box of Miss Meringues to save my life. Although considering how hard it is for me to stop at
1/2 or a full serving, maybe I'm better off thinking they're not available.

    Prairie Roots said:

I can't Miss Meringues here anymore either. I don't know what happened; when I first started WW, I
was able to buy them. But sometime during the summer, another brand moved to town and I can't find
Miss M's anywhere. The replacement brand is not nearly as good.

  3. Interesting - I heard that TJ's locates where there are already markets that specialize in natural
foods - they prefer the competition since their prices tend to be so low.

Miss Meringues seem to be dropping off here, too. The nearby grocery that carried them now has much
less inventory or none sometimes. And Bed, Bath carries many of the larger size which I don't like
as much and they do not seem to carry the very chocolate (G)

Skinny Cows seem to carry a flavor allegance - only some flavors at some stores. I finally noticed
the strawberry ones but that flavor does not really interest me. (G) Now that does not mean I might
    not succumb.....

    How's the snow?

    Prairie Roots said:

I'm in Mpls, but no matter. Trader Joe's isn't in Minnesota at all. According to the Trader Joe's
Web site, these are the only states with stores: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Delaware,
Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York,
    Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington.

    So I'm spared.

was able to buy them. But sometime during the summer, another brand moved to town and I can't find

    Again, I'm saved.

Skinny Cows, though, are another matter. Every grocery store carries at least one of the flavors.

  4. You know - even if you blow it, I think the whole tub is still less than an ordinary piece of
chocolate cake not that I am sanctioning such loss of control (G)

And I forgot - yes, I've had a few off-brands and they are not as smooth or good altho, TJ's are
fine but they do not have the mini's I want.

  5. You're right, of course. I confess that on one or two occasions, I've had to figure out the points
for a whole tub. And at the end of a week, I've had points to spare.

You hit the nail on the head, though, because the issue isn't so much about the number of points, or
going over points. For me, the loss of control and the self-recrimination that follows are simply
not worth any amount of points. I'd rather be honest about my lack of willpower and thus avoid those
foods that call my name than be honest about having mindlessly devoured an entire box of cookies in
one sitting. I find it easier to say No to the first bite than to stop once I've started.

Lest you think I'm a zealot, if they were packaged and sold in single servings, I'd happily treat
myself to one of those on grocery shopping day.

much WHATEVER and having it around. So far I'm doing well with the chocolate cake stored in the back

And yesterday, I discovered Fry's Electronic has Miss Meringues (sigh) and managed to down most of a

    are:

Arlington Heights Batavia Chicago Downers Grove Glen Ellyn Glenview LaGrange Lake Zurich Naperville
    Northbrook Orland Park

Most all appear to be more in the *suburban Chicago* local.

download music or junk and next thing you know their computer is SICK, SICK, SICK. Of course things

I learned the hard way, many years ago and it just about killed me (and them). Definitely wasn't

My DH spends most of his waking hours in his "room", repairing or making things or being on his
computer, reading newgroups. He's into electronics mostly, but also metalwork and woodwork at
times. Repairs all kinds of electronic stuff, from computers, motherboards to kettles, lamps, and
the kids magic wands! You name it, he can repair it! Needless to say, if he's not repairing stuff
at work, he's doing it at home.

Wow, sounds like he has a tremendous amount of energy, I remember those days. <G> Hub used to do a
lot of woodwork stuff, but now seems to enjoy relaxing much more. I think putting the second story
on our house did him in, then gutting the first floor and totally redoing the kitchen and eating
area added a nail to the coffin. The installation of the laminate floor 2 years ago finished him
off. This year he finally hired someone to do the downstairs bath. We now tease him that he won't
leave the house unless we put wheels on his recliner. <g>

Aren't those few hours wonderful. Nicholas is usually in bed by 7:00 and DH by 9:00 or so, then I
get the place to myself for an hour or so before I go to bed. I love that nice quiet time. My quiet
time is earlier than yours though. If I stayed awake as late as you I wouldn't be able to function
    the next day!

Yup, I absolutely love them! I think I come by those late hours somewhat naturally - I remember my
mom being the same way. It also might be due to my kids ages. When they were younger, I could get
them to bed earlier which meant I was in bed earlier. Now that they are older teens it's a much
different story. 16 yr. old daughter usually hits bed at 11 or 12. When sonny boy is home from
college (he's 19) I'm lucky to have him roll into the house by 3AM. And of course, I can't sleep
until I know everyone is where they belong. <G> I've become very good at not-functioning.
Sometimes it does get to me, most of the time I'm ok though. I listen to my body and if I am
    exhausted then I give in.

  14. Too much Thanksgiving STUFF and stuffING. (g)

Not to the point of discomfort like many previous food orgies but too much nonetheless. Back to
simple today. Most already planned or done. Oatmeal for breakfast (cooked in 6 day batches), a
peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch left over from yesterday's ski trip, and an already
    cooked yam toward tonight's dinner.

I have too much leftover apple pie and I'm thinking of un-crusting the fruit and just
    eating that (g)

  15. Yup, exercise is a main key to fighting depression but my feet have been so sore that I can't do too

I forgot about DH illnesses can also bring on depression. My DH had an angina attack last month

schedule was turned upside down. I worked from home those days which is something I had not done
for about a year. Was not used it at all. I don't know if it impacted my depression level but I

  17. Yep, that's me. The list of things I don't have in the house is pretty extensive: Baked goods,
chips, frozen treats, candy, anything considered a snack food rarely makes an appearance on my
grocery list. I must have been dozing when the willpower gene was being handed out. I just
    don't have any.

I also was out of the skinny cow habit,
maybe got a bit tired of them. BUT ... the peppermint ones looked soooooooooooo good ... I am
once again hooked. I have found that nightly napping has helped to squelch the urge - sleep right
through the snacking time. Although it means I am pounding away on my puter at 4AM. <G>

Has any of this helped? LOL

Yeah, I know about Flexpoints. And believe me, I use 'em. But I'd rather use activity points than
    Flexpoints.

It's funny, I'm at that same point now too. Although, this week the

    flexpoints

    Quoted message said:

seem to have been used more than the activity points. Guess it makes up

    for all

    Quoted message said:

those activity points I DIDN'T use last week. But the dang scale didn't

    care

    Quoted message said:

    today. <sigh>

    Quoted message said:

Honestly, the main reason I avoid having things like this in the house is that after the 1st day
or two of being good and eating just one per day, something flips and I have a hard time
controlling the urge to eat them all at once. I've decided I'm just no longer interested in
beating myself up or wondering what's wrong with me when I'm not able to practice restraint... I
take the easy way out and just don't allow them in the house.

I do understand, and if you have that problem then you are better off

    keeping them

    Quoted message said:

out of the house. The skinny cows don't bother me, nor do the meringues.

    1

    Quoted message said:

package of skinny cows will honestly stay in my freezer close to a month

    ... and

    Quoted message said:

the meringues don't go too much faster (unless my daughters friend gets

    into

    Quoted message said:

them). Bring a cheesecake, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, stuff like

    that

    Quoted message said:

anywhere near me .. and forget it ... I'm toast.

I've never tried meringes. Actually have never seen them here. After reading about them on the ng I
did a google search and found all kinds of recipes, so might try to make some at some point.

Nightly napping to avoid the evening snack, eh? From what you've said in other posts about
competing for time on your new computer, I'd say those naps serve a dual purpose. LOL

You might have me confused with someone else, I don't have to fight for

    computer

    Quoted message said:

time. There are 5 computers networked together in my house - I will not

    share!

    Quoted message said:

LOL Really, my computer is used for the business and the kids are only

    allowed on

    Quoted message said:

it for sheer desperation - things they can't do on their own.

You're a smart one! Not letting the kids on your business computer. We see it all the time in our
shop, people who run their own businesses and their kids are constantly using their computer to
download music or junk and next thing you know their computer is SICK, SICK, SICK. Of course things
like this can be fixed, but it costs the customer time and money.

    This way, if

    Quoted message said:

anything should go wrong with it, there is no possibility of me getting

    angry at

    Quoted message said:

them. And if they each have schoolwork or whatever to be done, they

    aren't

    Quoted message said:

fighting where I have to listen to it. <g> The napping tends to be from

    either

    Quoted message said:

exhaustion (my late hour habit) or stress .. or a combo of both. I don't

    go on

    Quoted message said:

the computer in the early evening, hub likes me to keep him company. I

    get bored

    Quoted message said:

with the tv, it puts me to sleep.

My DH spends most of his waking hours in his "room", repairing or making things or being on his
computer, reading newgroups. He's into electronics mostly, but also metalwork and woodwork at times.
Repairs all kinds of electronic stuff, from computers, motherboards to kettles, lamps, and the kids
magic wands! You name it, he can repair it! Needless to say, if he's not repairing stuff at work,
    he's doing it at home.

So about 3 or 4 hours on the couch and I'm up

    Quoted message said:

all night ... catch about 2 - 3 hours of sleep before I have to get up in

    the

    Quoted message said:

morning. It's a bad cycle that I do need to break - but I really do love

    my quiet

    Quoted message said:

    hours in the dark.
