I am new to cycling and looking to buy first road bike mainly for fitness training. I went down to my LBS and narrowed it down to either this seasons Giant SCR2 or last seasons OCR1.
The OCR1 is reduced in price by about 30% so there is nothing to choose between them on price. From what the guy in the shop was saying the OCR1 has a lot better spec but the SCR2 is a newer design with a compact frame (but lower spec).
Only thing i noticed was the joints on the OCR1 frame looked a bit untidy compared to the SCR2 (sorry if thats a non cyclist comment)
I was just looking for any advice on what's the best option to go for and is the state of the joins in frame normal for some bikes?

I don't know anything about the SCR. I bought an OCR1 for my daughter last year and it is a very nice bike. I do believe the OCR is also considered "compact geometry". It does indeed have a significant top tube slant. My daughter's OCR1 works very well, easy to adjust to her, shifts perfectly, very light for an entry level bike.
By rough joints, I'm assuming you are referring to the Alloy version of the OCR. I've done around 25,000K on an OCR2 and the frame has been perfect, where previously I was breaking frames.
With 30% off, it does sound like the OCR may be a better buy. And to be honest, you won't know exactly what you want until you have a ridden for quite some time, so you might as well go for the cheaper option.

I'm sorry, I bought an OCR3 for my daughter- the lowest level of that line. It is an excellent bike though, like I said above.
