those looking for the perfect solution in HU for the MkV, it seems
that this is it: Nav with 3D graphics, 30GB Hard Drive, MP3 player
with ID tags, Bluetooth and full OEM CAN intergration. Coming soon to
all Volkswagen offerings with Nav.Suddenly, any aftermarket solution
is no solution at all. :w00t:iowarabbit06-19-2007, 06:10

is. roughly $4000 AUSD.:eyebulge: ouch. That was an ebay offering a
couple of weeks ago of a very early unit apparently that has been just
introduced this month. So I do not think that this is representative
of what the actual used cost of this unit would be in the coming
months when it will be in full production .I would guess that in a
year or so it will be slightly above what a current, used OEM Nav unit
could fetch, or about $1500 to $1700 on ebay. Not bad for an
"OEM" Avic D3 without any adapters/separate modules and
better integration. :w00t:SAbroSO06-19-2007, 01:50 PMId rather get the
Pioneer avic-z1 or z2. I still think thats expencive. $2,000

won't be so expensive for those with the OEM Nav.They go for what
1000-1200 online. Most likely this will sell for 1800 USD ~ 2000 USD.
Thus 800 bucks for the upgrade:Touchscreen30gig HDDTraffic UpdateDVD /

do.keanubear06-20-2007, 02:44 AMI wonder if you could install that in
a rabbit?Like, would the speaker set up need to change? What about the
sat radio?Fonderson06-20-2007, 07:05 AMIf it will work in the jetta
mk5, then it will work in the rabbit. As far as speakers and sat
radio, you'll have to wait til the tiguan arrives. The first US VW
which will have this will be the Tiguan, naturally SAT radio will be
included. Most likely the speaker setup will not be a problem.BTW
Siemens built this system for those who are
interested.Jeppe07-01-2007, 05:26 PMMy friend just got one and it
really does ROCK! I had the chance to try it in my car which has DLS
speakers and amp. I currently have the OEM dvd nav system - and the
difference in sound was remarkable. Despite the speakers and amp being
professionally installed and set up, I was never 100% happy with
the way it sounded - but when I heard it with this one, it sounded
exactly the way it should, so of course I went ahead and ordered one
immediately. It really does everything you could wish for in a HU as
far as I can see. In my opinion there is no alternative to it, if you
want to keep the OEM look and functions. It should fit in all newer VWs
but the HDD which is placed on the bottom of the unit, makes it an
inch or so bigger than the old MFD, which was a slight problem in my
friend's car (Seat Altea).theBagg07-02-2007, 02:41 AMI`m currently in
Australia and have an R32 on order... I am trying to organise some
sort of confirmation from my dealer about getting this new nav instead
of the POS current nav. After sending the above photos his reply
was:Good AfternoonI have looked into your enquiry into the Sat

ellite navigation on the new Volkswagon R32.I have discussed the
photos that you sent me with Volkswagon and they are unable to confirm
whether or not that this will be the new system in our clients vehicle
as we cannot specify any particular Navigation unit from the
factory. Are you guys that have the new system, buying them
aftermarket? Or from a dealer? I really would like to get some sort of
confirmation on this. I saw a post in another thread about the VW
media release on the 2008 models, and the interior is still showing
the old nav system.Kricket07-02-2007, 12:54 PMIt won't be so expensive

those upgrades are worth $800 - not to me at least - thats a TON of
cash for those particular featuresi think for people without ipods,
the hd would definitely be useful - but for people with ipods, it
would just be more of a "convenience" feature (not having to
lug around the ipod)imo, the d3 is STILL the best bang-for-your buck
unit on the market today - ESPECIALLY for people with ipods - if you
have an ipod, you can buy the d3 and add traffic-nav for a little less
than HALF the price this thing costsbut - it DOES look good (i wont
deny that) - just not my cup of tea...Diabel07-02-2007, 01:04 PMI

it can be mounted into the GTI or any MK5 platform car, however, I
would not buy a EU version. Wait for the US version to come out, once
the tiguan is launched. Most likely the unit will be in the 1800~2000
range [stand alone option]. Those with the standard US DVD based navi,
should be able to get 1200 for their unit on
eBay.henrylau1107-08-2007, 04:45 AMthanks for your reply, when is it
coming to the states? also (stand alone option) is meaning for those
with the cd player and not the nav with dvd? if i only hv the cd
player, i should expect to pay 1800-2000 for the nav? also how much
would it cost to install?thanks a lot!Fonderson07-08-2007, 07:41 AMI
really do not have concrete information, however those are estimates.
Remember, it would be best to wait 3-4 months after the Tiguan starts
to sell here, before asking your dealership if they have the
standalone dvd nav system. Moreover, it will give the people who want
to upgrade the chance to go and test the system out, and see if it is
really worth shelling out the extra cash. To install, if you go to any
audio store, Tweeters or Sound Advice, they should charge you roughly
100 bucks. If it is like similar to exchanging the radio to Navi
system, it's a direct plug and play. The only real task / challenge is
mounting the GPS atenna. But again, the prices may be off, or less. I
highly doubt it will be higher than 1800-2000 if you order just the
navi alone from your dealership, there are also other sites which
specializes in selling new,pre-owned,refurb navi systems. They may be
able to get it them at a discount. Once I have more information
regarding the pricing, I will let you know.Technic07-08-2007, 09:00
AMIMO, the only way that this new Nav system could work for me is if
it comes with a full iPod control and a full Bluetooth solution, both
using full OEM controls and microphone. Without those two features it
is just only a slight improvement over what VW is offering right now,
if you really think about it. :confused:jaydubz07-08-2007, 09:40 AMOk

do not need a new dash display. You simply remove your radio, and then
fit this one in. It is a direct Plug & Play, at least the current
systems are. Most likely the same with the RNS510, the one posted

is to install one? I would like to pick up a OEM Nav system, I would
not mind the current generation to be honest.Fonderson07-08-2007,
10:15 AMYou can buy those at Best Buy or off eBay. If you are going to
get the current generation navigation unit, just make sure you do NOT
buy a EU DVD Based Navi. Although one can pick them up for around
500-600 bucks [ which is a steal ] it will not allow you to enter US
Based addresses. You will be limited to POI.There are links on here,
which I have posted regarding the DIY. Although I personally have not
done it myself, it appears to be straight forward, and should not take
no more than 30-40 minutes if you follow the
instructions.zither9907-08-2007, 03:03 PMI installed the current nav
myself. The installation is very simple, just look at diy on how to
install an aftermarket deck. There's a diy for the nav install on the
vortex I believe, it's ridiculously easy. The GPS antenna can

be mounted under the dash, it's really small, and for me reception
wasn't an issue. They are cheap as well, ~$20 on ebay+shipping. The
only reason I sold mine was because all it could do is navigate, and
in the city it's useless to me, I'd rather have a 6 disc mp3 changer,
but this new system, (RNS 510) has everything I've been looking
for.:wub:jaydubz07-13-2007, 01:34 PMtoo bad I did not know that you

its just aesthetics - but VERY well doneoverall - im SUPER impressed
with these shots - i think the ui is just killerive said before that
its not worth the 2100 usd but i have to admit - if i had the cash
laying around, i might consider it - the ONLY thing im not liking very
much is the lack of direct ipod support - one might say that the

pain to update than an ipod i can plop in my pocket when i
want...either way - i think its awesome - congrats to those who have

another place to have to transfer and manage your audio library. If it
can at least display mp3 tag info from the Ipod that would be a step
in the right direction. The same crummy "playlist only"
navigation would be a let down though. I'm curious how it handles
navigating audio files on the HD.Kricket08-08-2007, 02:59 PM^ my MAIN
reason for getting the pioneer avic-d3 was the ipod support - sure,
