Old Campy Shamal question

Campy aficionados, please:

Were the 12-HPW Campy Shamal wheels ever available in 8-speed, or only in 1st generation 9-speed?

Or were the only Shamal 8-speeders the earliest 16-spoke type that had Record hubs?

Wow my memory is bad, I thought Shamals were only ever 8 speed... but I do know for sure (well OK I seem to remember) lusting after a team mate's 12 spoke 8 speed Shamals when I was a poor college student.

Naw, the last iteration of them (2001 or 2002) was 9/10 speed, 14H front/16H rear, and US MSRP was $600. I loved my set, but it's been awhile!
