I am a student at college, and recently got my father's circa 1970's Sears-Roebuck Free Spirit. It has Shimano Tourney brakes. The pads are 30+ years old, and rather worn. What should I get to replace them, and where can I find it?

You can buy replacement brake pads from your Local Bike Shop, WalMart (et al), or eBay, etc. ...

The cost will vary by quite a bit ...

If you check eBay, you may be able to get an acceptable-for-recreational-riding set of FOUR brake pads for about $10 ...

If-and-When THAT set wears out, you'll have a better idea if you need some super-duper brake pads or if another set of hum-drum pads will do.

BTW. You want to be certain that the replacement pads have the SAME type of MOUNTING POSTs which attach the pads to the brake calipers -- e.g., threaded, or not.
