My 48 hole Alex DX 32 rim arrived today from Germany.
Those of you who have been following this on the forum know
that they are not available at present here in the U.S.
which is significant for a few reasons.
First, there is a derth of modestly priced high quality
unicycles on the market. The one that is available (Torker
DX)is not completely suitable for Trials or MUni because
of a frame that can't accomodate the popular trials and
MUni tires.
Second, the hub on the Torker DX is a 48 spoke model,
instead of the popular 36 spoke type
Third, the stock rim is also too narrow to be completely
satisfactory for the wider tires.
I think I've hit upon a happy solution to all of these
problems😄
I wanted a 20" trials uni of high quality for my son. I
didn't want to pay very much. Now that the Summits are gone,
this isn't easy!
So, I bought a 24" Torker DX from e-bay, an Alex 19" x 48
spoke DX 32 rim from Municycle.com in Germany, and a trials
tire and tube from unicycle.com. The 24" Torker DX has less
than 1/2" more height through the throat of the frame legs
than my Nimbus II 20" frame, but plenty of width. So the 24"
rim gets scrapped and the 19" rim installed. It all goes
back together and voila! A cool and unique trials rig for
about $300.00 total.
I expect it to be done before the end of the week, and will
post pic's.
