Are these a good first clipless pedal? Are they easy to clip in and out of? Would it be better to spend more money and get the 6610's or the 7810? Do these work with the normal road shoes that have the three holes on the bottom?

If you mean the R540, best avoided - I wore out a pair after 8000km. Go for Ultegra or DA.
SPD-SL is a good system, easy to clip in and out, and easy to walk on the cleats.

Indeed, the pedal doesn't last as long of the higher spec ones, but they are certainly usable.

Cheeck out the Crank Smarty - that's very user friendly too
