I have narrowed my frame selection down to the Orbea Onix, Look 555 or Giant TCR. I am 40 years old and I am 5"8 145. I am looking for an all around bike (I know . . . we all are). I do the occasional road race and also do some longer distance riding (125+ miles). Any recommendations. Thanks

Hey... I'm a bike shope geek!! I just bought the Orbea Onix as did a friend. The Onix is incredibly smooth. I'm not a fan of Giant (never have been). Matter of fact our bike shop won't sell them. Look -- of course is a great brand but I haven't had the opportunity to ride it. Of course I'm am partial to the onix. Hopes this helps. The sizing is a bit different on Orbeas. Both my friend and I had to take a size down in order to fit the bike. But overall a GREAT bike.

I've commented on these bikes before. Rather than repeating them, here's the threads my comments are in - might be worth a look:

Like Tkix6, I'm biased. But my bias is opposite. I love the TCR Composite and don't particularly like the Orbea. The 555 is an excellent frame and runner-up to the TCR in my book. I guess this all goes to show that the only opinion that matters is your own. Ride them yourself!

Thanks for the responses Tkix6 and Friedmikey. After riding all three, I ended up going with the TCR. I could not be happier. Based on fit, ride, weight and price I felt that the TCR was hard to beat. My first ride was a 60 miler in with 3500 feet of climbing (not much climbing for some, but it is a lot if you live in central Ohio). The TCR was awesome.

As for the other frames, the finish on the Look was by far the best and the frame was the stiffest (in my opinion), the Onix looked the coolest and probably had a slight advantage in overall ride, but in the end, they were all very nice, and with all things considered, I thought the best bang for the buck was the Giant.
