I got fed up with a discussion here and left it (Re: funny). Curiously enough, when searching
through this ng, I am hard pressed to find any posts on recumbents by Ed Dolan. If I am in error,
would someone please correct me?

So Ed, what is your non-political interest here? Again, if you've posted anything remotely connected
to bicycles, I apologize. Your buddy in the Netherlands, Dave Horne

Lemme get this straight. You say you got fed up with an off topic political thread (which you
freely chose to read) and presumably left the newsgroup because you didn't like what Mr. Dolan had
to say. Nevermind the numerous others (of which you were one) who contributed to the thread. Now
that things are politically quiet in the newsgroup you presumably have chosen to come back and
troll for Ed Dolan.

Do you even ride a recumbent or are you here just to troll for Ed?

I follow the posts on this newsgroup and only post rarely on recumbent subjects. What does that have
to do with anything? I am here because of my interest and not because I feel I have to add anything
to what is already being said. Half of Mr. Sherman's posts make no sense to
me. He is just touching base with his buddies. Many others do that here too. I think touching base
with your buddies could better be done by personal emails but I don't object; I just don't
bother to read those type of posts. In other words, I pick and choose what I am going to read on
this newsgroup the same as I would on any other newsgroup. That is what you should be doing too.
But what brings me here in the first instance is my interest in recumbents. I don't see what the
problem is.

By the way, that fellow from Finland that posts a lot here on this newsgroup once told me in a
message that all you Dutch cyclists were raving liberal socialist eco freaks (not his exact words
but close enough). Is this true? If it is true, that may have something to do with why you get fed
up with my posts, don't you think? But I have been listening to your type of thinking for most of
my life and so it won't kill you to put up with a few of my posts. I know you are not objecting to
Mr. Sherman's ranting and raving. That is because you agree with him and it is therefore music to
your ears.

Hey Skip, someone will always be trolling for me because I add a little excitement to their dull
lives and to what would otherwise be a very dull newsgroup. We have an election coming up in 2004.
We will all be mad as hatters by then if we manage to survive one another. We may not even get
through this coming winter as we all get very cranky and ornery as a result of not being able to
ride our recumbents as much as we do the rest of the year. I will admit that when I forget to take
my blood pressure medication that I can easily go into orbit over anything at all. I have got to
calm down some.

Regards,

Ed Dolan - Minnesota

Skip, if you view your screen of this ng to show who initiated a thread and use my name, you will
see I have initiated a few threads. I see you have not initiated any thread re biking. I have gone
back so that I have more than 3800 messages on my screen.

I bike a great deal and am interested in buying a hybrid, but I guess you don't read the latest
threads since your only concern is right wing politics.

I see the best defense is an offense, hey Skippy boy?

So Ed, what recumbent posts have you initiated or have responded to? Simple question, ....
simple answer? Is your life so boring that your only excitement is expending your energy
supporting our semi-literate President. Man, you gotta get out more. Get on your bike and burn
off that excess energy.

This is a recumbent ng, n'est pas? Have you thought of a .... hmmm, political ng? Just a
thought, fella.

Ed, I searched this ng and see (in the last 3800 posts) that you have in fact contributed about
responses that were not political. My apologies.

You know, Ed, if you feel so strongly about the situation in Iraq, you could offer your services.
Unfortunately for me, I have already served my 20 years active duty and can not rejoin. (I retired
at the age of 44, moved to the Netherlands, and my love for biking flourished here.)

I would start by doing some push ups and some light jogging. Who knows, you might actually be able
to put your body into action instead of just your mouth All the best, your buddy in the Netherlands,
Dave Horne

You say you have more than 3800 messages on your screen? You must have a really big screen or those
must be really tiny messages.

Anyway it's for sure my interest in hybrids is essentially nil.

Why is it that there always seems to be some liberal out there just itching to initiate one these
off topic political flame threads. Give it rest DH. Go buy yourself a hybrid and ride it. Or do more
google searches. Or start a motorless moped newsgroup. Or whatever.

from your skippy boy good buddy non hybrid riding extra extreme right winger right here in the good
ole usa who isn't buying into a netherlandic second rate troll from some tom sherman wannabe i know
tom sherman and you're no tom sherman

No, you are not going to get rid of me so you liberal nuts can have this newsgroup to yourselves to
post your political stupidities. I am here to stay. Get use to it. As long as you stick to your
recumbent topics you will most likely not be bothered by me as most of your recumbent subjects are
way too dull for me to ever bother with. But I am glad I have got your pulse rate up a bit. That
should have the effect of getting some blood flow to your brain where it might do some good for how
you think about Iraq and terrorists and such.

I don't give a hoot what you have turned up in your researches about me and my posts. I don't need
your permission or approval to be here. Grow up!

I only feel strongly about all the inane liberal extremist left-wing wacko nut posting that goes on
here. If you nuts would stop doing that then that would be the last you would ever hear from me,
except on those very rare occasions when I could contribute something to a recumbent related topic.

It is hard for me to believe you could ever have been a member of the armed forces of the US. But in
any event with your present attitude about the US, it's leadership and our foreign policy I am glad
that you are now a resident of a pygmy nation like the Netherlands. I trust you have not given up
your American citizenship to become a citizen of that wretched little country. I am hoping at the
least that you no longer vote in our elections. That would be some consolation to me.

Boy! This guy has got recumbents on the brain the way some of these liberal nuts have got oil on the
brain with respect to why we are in Iraq. Unless you are posting all the time about recumbents, and
no less initiating posts about recumbents, then you are persona non grata on this forum.

I can count the conservatives who post on this news group on the fingers of one hand whereas the
liberals who post on this newsgroup are as numerous as gnats and just as pesky. But they want to
have everything here their own way and cannot tolerate a few lone voices crying in the wilderness
that is this newsgroup politically speaking. But I have always known that liberals are only tolerant
when they are ruling the roost; when they are not, they are the most intolerant bastards that ever
walked the earth. We should just all shut up and go home so they can preen themselves and stroke one
another with their idiocies uninterrupted by any semblance of sanity. But the times, they are a
changing. You say something stupid, I will be here for you.

Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives. John Stuart Mill

Most people are conservatives - period. And for good reason. If you want to change society by
radical means then the burden of proof falls on you. Most attempts to change societies have been
abysmal failures and disasters. That is why most people are conservatives. A stupid conservative
person is not going to nearly cause the amount of damage that a "smart" liberal person is going to
cause. That is also the reason that most Democrats are also quite conservative. It is only the
liberal extremist left-wing wacko nuts that are not. Your quote from Mill is not wrong but it is
incomplete.

I believe that some contributors to this NG are not from the US.

That was a long time ago and you've got a good memory. Since we had that discussion the exclusion
has gone up. I believe it is now up to a million and going higher. The death tax, I think, will
eventually be eliminated. I know how bitter this pill is for you to swallow.

President Bush's efforts to save small family businesses and farms are much appreciated. This would
include most of the recumbent manufacturers businesses I would think (on topic content for those
taking notice).

I was first introduced to the non-bike topic with the Re: funny thread. Who started that
thread Skippy?

This is still a dangerous world. It's a world of madmen and uncertainty and potential mental losses.
Dubya (Bush the Younger)

I do find it amazing how verbally abusive the right wingers are. When an argument is lacking, make
the attack personal (a lesson from Rush).

Ed, my blood pressure is just fine and so are my mental faculties; thank you for your concern just
the same. Having retired at 44, I've learned to pace myself.

It is clear our nation is reliant upon big foreign oil. More and more of our imports come from
overseas. Duyba

Ed, since you've verbally attacked the Netherlands (the typical approach for dittoheads, attack when
you know nothing about a subject), I should point out that all European countries (check out the CIA
World Fact Book http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/ ) have higher life expectancy rates
and lower infant mortality rates than the US. That surprised me. The standard of living (using only
those stats) is obviously higher. We pay more in taxes (yes, I pay US and Dutch taxes), but we get
more back from the gov't in services. That is changing because we have a right leaning gov't at the
moment which no doubt should make you happy.

I don't vote here, but the voting machines are on a higher lever than the US ... electronic ... what
a surprise. The US should upgrade and use third world 'machines' .... wooden boxes with piece of
paper instead of the advanced technology we used in Florida.

Oh, another measure of the standard of living ... the average height of the average Dutch citizen.
They are 4 cm taller than the average US citizen. The Dutch are the tallest people on the planet.
This is not due to genetics, but better health care and better living. (I tried to provide a link to
an article in Time magazine, Oct 14, 1996, but the link was invalid.)

Other interesting things re Holland - the first country to legalize

can be prescribed for pain relief. We have bike paths throughout the _entire_ country. When a new
living area is built, a bike path is included as part of the plan, that goes without saying. It's a
well organized country ... and the US could learn something from Holland and other European
countries. Most Dutch speak two or more languages. The standard of education is higher here than in
the US. The summer vacation is measured in weeks, not months. Everyone is entitled to a college
education, period. (I don't know the specifics re the costs, but money is not an issue re
education.)

The average person here loves America and Americans, but thinks Bush is an idiot and his policies
failed. I never have to defend Bush because, well, he is an idiot ... he rarely speaks unscripted
these days, ever notice that? ... (to the detriment of all those guys making money simply selling
quotations of our semi-literate leader).

Also, most Europeans know much more about American politics than the other way around. Europeans
think of Americans (in general) as being provincial. I don't consider myself worldly, but I am
constantly confronted with different cultures and different view points. It broadens one's view of
the world.

So Ed, are you going to join the fight, sorry, are you going to join the peace in Iraq or are you
going to remain an arm chair warrior?

--
The fundamental question is: 'Will I be a successful president when it comes to foreign policy?' I
will be, but until I'm the president, it's going to be hard for me to verify that I think I'll be
more effective. Dubya

Who initiated the Re: funny post? That was my introduction to the rabid right.

Actually, the Dutch are supposedly on average the tallest people in Europe. Hardly a nation
