Yes there are courteous motorists out there. When I'm in
cyclist mode and am shown courtesy by a motorist, I always
try to acknowledge said with a smile, hand-up, nod, spoken
"thank you" - whatever is appropriate for the circumstances.
I figure that if I show a bit of courtesy back siad motorist
might be courteous to the next cyclist he or she meets.

I should say that on average, on my 20 km round-trip daily
commute (East Finchley-Highgate-Hampstead-Primrose Hill) I
meet an average of 3-4 exceedingly polite motorists and
1-2 idiots.
