Back in 1992, I rode the "road" version of the Pacific Crest Trail in California South to North. Is it still a popular cycling route? Enjoyed it immensely! Anyone completed it recently?

tell me more about is the road version of this trail ? I know the hiking only version fairly well. It seems to me that there would be long stretches of it that do not parallel the trail version especially around Tehachapi mountains and the Southern Sequoias or Kern River areas. Are there alot of east /west detours and weird connections you have to make or is it a fairly clear route from north to south ?
