Panaracer Fire XC Pro's

Hi,

I've got a Specialized Epic with Tioga DH 2.1's on it at
the mo, I'm looking for something with a bit more of a good
XC reputation and I see the Panaracers Fire XC's are
heavily recommended. Could any help me choose between the
2.1's and 1.8's ??

I ride mostly Singletracks that aren't shodden with 10ft
deep mud though do occasionaly come accross it. I feel like
I should be buying the 1.8's but do you lose any grip
compared to the 2.1's on climbs or anythign else notable?

Help appreciated!

Regards

Paul.

i have 2.1 fire xc pro and trailblaster 1.8's. inorder not
to worry about pinch flats on my 1.8's i run them at higher
pressure. this is good when its dry and hard packed mud. but
when rocky the lower pressure on my 2.1's are better for
general traction.

Here's a question that I haven't seen discussed lately. Used
to be that MTB's came with a larger tire on the front, ie
2.1 up front and 1.8 in the rear. Seems that most people
have drifted away from that set up and use the same size
tire fore and aft. The theory I remember was that the wider
tire up front gave better steering control and the smaller
rear was faster.

I've spent most of my money on mountain biking and windsurfing.
The rest I've just wasted.

Used to set up my old BMX bikes that way, and for the reason
you mentioned. Seemed like it made a difference, but don't
know how well it actually worked, or if it was more of a
psychological advantage. Haven't ever tried it on my
MTB....always go wide front and rear. But I don't ride to
race anymore, just to have fun.

The Fire XC Pro is a great tire. Had 2.1 front and rear on
my old Proflex. The new Cannondale came with Hutchinson
scorpion air lites, 2.0, and I have been running them with
some confidence. But when they wear down a bit more,
Panaracers will be the replacement.

I have been riding Fire XC´s 2.1" for years, like them a
lot, it is kind of and excellent all round tyre, good for
everything but nor really excellent for anything. You will
of course have better grip with 2.1"s.

If you are living in the US you could give Specialized
SWorks Roll-X a chance. They are as wide as the Fire XC,
have excellent grip, and are general fun. It is one of the
best we have ever used. Buy them in a shop, last year in
Durango we got one that was badly moulded, the shop
exchanged it for another without hassle but had it been
bought over the web, mail order, it would have been a
major nuisance.

Still done in the BMX world.
