I just installed my first set of clipless, Shimano PD-R540, and i know these pedals are weighed so that they are supposed to be verticle when you're not cliped in but it seems mine don't always return to verticle. A lot of the time they stop with the tip of the pedal pointed back, somwhere between 11 and 12 o'clock. I find it a little tricky to click my second foot in when the pedal is angled back like that.
My buddy bought the same set of pedals and installed the roughly the same time and he says he hasn't noticed this problem. Any ideas?

I think they will "break in" and rotate better with some use. Give it a few rides and see if that helps.

Agreed. Almost all pedals require a break in period before they function properly - this includes both clipping in and clipping out, as well as how they hand when not in use.
