Peened rivets ... sticky links more likely?

The Shimano HG chain for its STI systems uses peened rivets. Thinking back on the days before STI, it seems to me that I have more sticky (aka jammed or stiff) links with the HG chains. Is it possible that peened rivets make chains more susceptible to sticky links?

Related point. To fix sticky links that don't respond to being cleaned and wiggled, I use a chain tool to move the rivet back and forth. This has always worked, but it strips the peening off the rivet, which could create a weak link. I keep an eye on rivets I've had to unstick, but has anyone ever had an HG chain fail at the rivet that had the peens stripped?
