As I understand the law, shared paths end at all intersections. Unless
the crosswalk or pedestrian crossing has a bicycles light as well as a
pedestrian light, cyclists must dismount before crossing *between the
dashed lines*. They must also wait for the light to turn green before
walking across.

That's what we all do.

Completely unrelated to the fact he was a cyclist or who hit him, I feel
sorry for the old buggers.

A bit OT, but...

In the past week I have had four incidents of having to stop at a green
light while some ****** drove through his/her red light into my path.
(No, I am not talking about trucks that entered the intersection on
orange but took a long time to get through, I'm talking dickheads that
deliberately ran red lights.)

On one occasion, I had to honk, because the guy in the car next to me
went to take off as soon as it was green - didn't check the intersection
was clear.

How are these people getting licences? No wonder there's so many deaths
on the road.

for the red light at a set of ped lights.. wait for the 2 peds to cross
then drive off thru the red light. This in very heavy traffic

Dave i am not supprised at this type of behavour!
With the amount of coppers set to leave the service, and a small recuting number, things will get scarier on the cycling journey

I remember a few years ago someone poured some oil at the stop lights
(we only have one set of stoplights in my town) and someone spun their
wheels up to the stop lights, stopped, and then continued spinning their
wheels throught the lights.
The police charged them with wreckless driving, but because they had
demonstrated that they had paused at the traffic lights it showed they
were in control of the vehicle and they escaped punishment.

Slightly off topic but re traffic lights. I don't know if Collie really
needed those traffic lights or they're just there for Christmas
decorations but it is a shame that the country towns are getting big
enough out here, or the traffic heavy enough, that it justifies signals.
Fifteen years ago you could leave Perth and not have to cycle through
another traffic light until halfway through South Australia, then first
Northam then Kalgoorlie broke the magic.
