Had this problem over and over again -

My FP wife suggests REST - it's an over-use injury of a group of three tendon insertions at the side of the knee.
Avoid running, biking for two weeks, swimming is o.k.
ICE and Ibuprofen are your friends.
DON'T let anyone talk you into injecting steroids in the area.

After icing the knee for a week, switch to altrnating ice and heat, at different times during the day. The theory is that ice lessens inflammation while heat speeds healing anti inflammatories to the area.

For prevention do both quad and hamstring training.

Then take it easy !!!! It will come back. It helped - for me - to develop a good base. Now I cycle Spinervals 3x a week and throw in 15 - 20 miles of running.

Lastly, are you sure your bike fits properly ? Too large/short frame - seat too high or low ? Pedals and cleats properly aligned ?

    Good Luck -
