All in EuroTrash Thursday.TOP STORY: Tinkov Wants to Change CyclingIn a long press release Oleg Tinkov said: “World cycling has to change… or die, or maybe just lurch from scandal to scandal for another decade as we watch teams come and go.” Adding that: “The paradox is that cycling is the world’s second most popular spectator sport, after football, but at the same time it is the poorest sport.”Mr. Tinkov suggests we have new races, but has he thought this through? A race like the Stadie Bianche was no over-night success, it took a few years for it to become the great race it is and that is due to its individuality. Other races have failed because they are new and don’t have the history needed to succeed.Although he makes a good point about the viewing figures: “People obviously need to watch the races rather than sleeping during siesta time in Continental Europe:). We need to find a way to get them interested during long and boring stages.
