Stage 13 Race Report: Giro d’Italia 2015 Stage 13 Race Report:On a day no one expected much of anything… Lampre’s Sacha Modolo out dragged Trek’s Giacomo Nizzolo for a wet weather win, while just outside 3km to go a crash caused gc chaos – another typical day at the Giro.If you love mountains, descents, the high altitude, the heroic cycling opportunities afforded by a constantly changing landscape today probably isn’t for you. The macro report is – flat, fast, flat, very fast, flat, mayhem. A sprinters’ day through and through, but it’s the Giro so that means hard racing and chaos!We’re racing from Montecchio Maggiore to Jesolo, over 147kms it’s got sprint finish stamped all over this stage. There is virtually zip in the way of obstacles: no climbs, no hills, barely a pimple. The stage starts at 50 meters above sea-level and ends on the Adriatic coast at two meters above the saltwater. It makes Paris-Roubaix look hilly.Today’s profile… couldn’t get much flatter.The successful escapees today are Rick Son of Erik Zabel (BMC Racing Team), Marco Frapporti from Androni Giocattoli and IAM Cycling’s Jerome Pineau. It’s surely a fools’ errand on a day like this, with practically zero hope of victory.
