After missing out on the Mortirolo yesterday, Ed and Martin made point of soaking up the atmosphere at the start in Tirano, before shooting off towards Switzerland. But everyone is still talking about Alberto and the Mortirolo and the guys were taking it all in.It would have been hard to find a better spot than ours to watch Lampre’s Sacha Modolo kiss the Lugano tarmac after his beautiful win in Stage 17 of the 2015 Giro than in our bar right beside Lago di Como.Two spinas and a big colour TV – perfecto.Lampre left it late but Ferrari and Richeze were superb in the finale, letting Saxo and Giant nullify Luca Paolini’s huge, late dig then setting their man up perfectly to best Trek’s Giacomo Nizzolo. But if we’re right, Nizzolo will take consolation in the red jersey of points leadership; wresting it from Sky’s Elia Viviani who had a five point lead in the competition but was washed away in the finish line tsunami.It was a day when it could have gone either way – but those sprinters are hungry guys. It was warm beside Como but much cooler up in Aprica, this morning . . .The CCC staff were out catching a few rays outside the hotel. Topping up the tans and admiring the PR girls who were also staying at the Hotel Derby.
