At last it’s the Giro d’Italia rest day, there were many looking forward to it, not just the riders. This lull in the action gives Lee Rodgers his chance to impart his thoughts on the battle so far from Italy. As usual it’s his special brew of opinions. The 2015 Giro dItalia is a mere nine stages old and yet this is already one for the ages. I cant remember a more exciting and invigorating start to a Grand Tour since I started watching professional cycling.Even the ridiculously long stage to Fiuggi on May 15th, Stage 7 (why so long? towns pay to have the Giro run through), was worth watching just to see if Contador could get through without being dragged to hell and back by some devilish combination of teams putting him to the test.Ouch!He survived of course, despite the odd wince, a feat that had some wondering just how bad his double dislocated shoulder really was. Why the distrust? He has previous, as we say in the UK for someone with a past history of similar offenses. In the 2014 Tour de France his team said hed broken his tibia but he was well enough by the Vuelta to go and take home the GC win. On yesterdays Stage 9 he was seen to grimace once or twice on the final climb but it was not painful enough apparently to allow any of his GC rivals a steal over him by the line.
